What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on energy healing practice that originated in Japan. It works by channeling universal life force energy to support the body’s natural ability to heal and restore balance. Reiki promotes deep relaxation, relieves stress, and encourages physical, emotional, and energetic harmony.


Elements of Reiki:

Energy Channeling

The practitioner acts as a conduit for healing energy, allowing it to flow where it’s most needed in the body and energy field.

Deep Relaxation

Reiki activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping the body shift out of stress mode and into a state of rest and repair.

Energetic Balance

Reiki gently clears blockages and restores balance in the body’s energy centers, supporting overall well-being and clarity.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki supports healing by activating the body’s parasympathetic nervous system—the branch of the nervous system responsible for rest, relaxation, and repair. When we enter this state, often referred to as the "rest-and-digest" mode, heart rate slows, cortisol levels drop, and the body can shift away from chronic stress responses. Studies have shown that Reiki sessions can reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and lower blood pressure by encouraging this deeply relaxed state. While Reiki is a subtle energy practice, its measurable effects on the nervous system help create the internal conditions necessary for physical healing, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.

What does Somatic mean?

Somatic comes from the Greek word soma, meaning “body.” In healing work, somatic practices invite you to gently reconnect with the sensations, emotions, and wisdom stored in your body. Rather than focusing only on thoughts or symptoms, somatic approaches honor the body as an active part of your healing—offering a grounded, present-moment pathway to release, regulation, and deep inner awareness. Somatic healing is a body-centered approach that helps release stored stress, trauma, or tension by gently reconnecting you with the physical sensations and wisdom of your body.

SOMATIC REIKI

Our Story

Justine was first introduced to chakras and alternative healing methods at a young age by her grandmother, Judith Winston, who is a Polarity Therapist, a Level II Reiki Healer, and the founder of Health Touch NC LLC, an alternative healing center based in North Carolina. 
In summer of 2022, Justine became the pioneer for meditation and chakra based musical education. She was the first to offer a comprehensive program that gives singers holistic healing tools to not only enhance their musical expression, but also use music as a part of their greater healing journey.
After founding Somatic Singing, she began her journey as a Reiki healer, following in her grandmother's thoughtful footsteps, and founded Somatic Reiki ~ bringing all of her healing modalities full circle.
